Ten years ago this week, I was busy backing up all of the computers at work for the imminent Y2K to strike. I spent evenings going from office to office, Centre to Centre compiling back-up disks of everything I could get my hands on.
And while the millennium turned the corner to 2000, I sat comfortably at a New Years party in Great Falls Montana surrounded by family and friends. Totally unconcerned about Y2K.
People around the world were stocking up on food items, fuel and ammunition. Many thought it would be a world catastrophe. And while we were all consumed with preventing the destruction that Y2K would bring, others were making fortunes fuelling the fears and selling the solutions. That was the beginning of a decade that would see terror grip the West, war in Afghanistan and Iraq, a financial collapse of the housing market, pensions, investments and banking that continue to this day.
So, has the past decade been good or bad? How has it effected you? Leave a comment here … or join the forums and go in depth with how it has effected you.
