Can you tell a “Protester” from an “Anarchist”? Do protesters have a responsibility to restrain anarchists? Do “Labour” groups want to share the stage with these criminals? I watched yesterday morning and listened to Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress, speak to the media and speak of a peaceful demonstration. The CLC along with groups such as the Ontario Federation of Labour, the Council of Canadians, Greenpeace, Oxfam, and the Canadian Federation of Students had planned a legitimate demonstration to protest and demonstrate and get their message across to the G-8/G-20 participants. The peacefulness soon left. It is a democratic right of all Canadians to assemble and protest issues or concerns held by a group. But where there is a “Right” there is a “Responsibility”. If a group organizes a demonstration or protest they have an obligation to the citizens and community in which they wish to conduct their demonstration or protest. I watched in anger as the turmoil unfolded before our eyes. I watched a group of Anarchists assume control of the demonstration and reek havoc on a Canadian city and it’s citizens, shop owners and police force. When I watch these arrogant, know it all deviants [...]

Oil continues to spew into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate that is more than alarming. Is there an end in sight? Nothing so far has had any real effect at stemming the flow. BP and other major league oil companies continue to come up with costly plans to bring an end to the disaster while the wetlands, beaches, fish and wildlife are sent into extinction. The blame game has been going on for some time now. The US government, British Petroleum, the Rig’s owner .. they are all blaming each other. But at this point in the game placing the blame won’t stem the flow of oil. B.P. has promised to clean every last drop of oil from the leak and make everything whole. Call me a pessimist, but I am waiting to see how long it takes for BP to throw it’s hands in the air and walk away from this disaster leaving it to the US to clean up. Of course the US federal government is being pressured to take charge of the situation now. That would be just the excuse BP would need to make their exit. I wonder if oil/oil money could be [...]

“Drill Baby Drill” was the battle cry of John McCain, Sarah Palin and the Republicans during the Presidential election of 2008. I haven’t heard that battle cry for over a week now. Perhaps they are all down on the Louisiana coast line helping with the worst oil spill in the history of mankind …… but somehow I doubt it. After a life time of trying to protect the environment, David Susuki must be devastated by the recent events in the Gulf of Mexico. After more than 40 years of gradual progress in slowing pollution, becoming more “Eco friendly” and recycling everything we can get our hands on in an effort to save the planet we should all feel devastated. British Petroleum has put the coast line of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida on a course of no return and total destruction. It appears that once again man’s unquenchable thirst for energy has caused the eco system to be shattered and untold millions upon millions of animals and plant life to be snuffed from existence. At the time of this writing, the oil is still pouring at a rate of 5,000 barrels a day into the warm waters of the Gulf [...]

Every now and again a person appears on the scene who is so arrogant, self centred and mean spirited that they make “Evil” sound like a good thing to be. Ann Hart Coulter is one of those people. Born in New York City on December 8th 1961, Ann got educated and pissed off at the world all at the same time. Ann despises anyone politically left of Ronald Reagan, any religion other than Christianity, any Country other than the USA, and any skin colour other than white. Ann loves to ridicule people with less means than her, with less privilege than her and has absolutely no compassion towards anyone who is not in a position to do something for her. Ann Coulter has shown distain for the men and women who maintain the freedom that allows her to be such a bitch, she was fired from MSNBC when she told the president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, himself a disabled Vietnam veteran, “No wonder you guys lost.” She was fired from the conservative National Review when she turned in a column offering a final solution to the Muslim problem: “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and [...]

Can you believe it? A decade has past since we welcomed the new millennium. It seems like yesterday in some respects, but with all that has happened it seems like two or three decades. Ten years ago this week, I was busy backing up all of the computers at work for the imminent Y2K to strike. I spent evenings going from office to office, Centre to Centre compiling back-up disks of everything I could get my hands on. And while the millennium turned the corner to 2000, I sat comfortably at a New Years party in Great Falls Montana surrounded by family and friends. Totally unconcerned about Y2K. People around the world were stocking up on food items, fuel and ammunition. Many thought it would be a world catastrophe. And while we were all consumed with preventing the destruction that Y2K would bring, others were making fortunes fuelling the fears and selling the solutions. That was the beginning of a decade that would see terror grip the West, war in Afghanistan and Iraq, a financial collapse of the housing market, pensions, investments and banking that continue to this day. So, has the past decade been good or bad? How has [...]
